Ty Bentli knows how quickly life can take you from a button-pusher on an AM news station in Sioux Falls, SD…to a market leading ratings success in this industry’s 3 biggest cities!

Ty began his career in his hometown, and finally cracked a CHR-mic when he got to college and was hired for swing shifts at KCLD, St Cloud!  He spent endless hours in production studios and in conversations with colleagues who helped fine-tune his on-air delivery…  That led Ty to successful shows in St. Cloud, then #1 in Little Rock, and eventually into one of his first big proving-grounds as the morning host of the brand-new Hot 93-3 in Austin!

Ty marched his morning show straight to #1 in Austin with mainstream demos.  This led him to a major leap…he was approached to join an underdog station in Chicago, as host of the afternoon show.

103-5 KissFM in Chicago was a floundering CHR station, which had been trailing the heritage behemoth B96 since its inception.  With Ty in control of afternoon drive, KissFM experienced its first taste of #1!  Afternoons topped the market for the remainder of Ty’s years with the station – and the station, overall, became the new standard for Chicago radio in that era!

iHeartMedia took the chance to utilize Ty’s skills in other markets; from Chicago, Ty voice-tracked highly-rated daily CHR and Country shows to Atlanta, St. Louis, Phoenix, San Antonio, Nashville and Cleveland.  Ty took a vested interest in each city, and localized his content to provide something that each listener deserves: a friend who understands their day. Ty’s investment in each city led to unique successes – including in St. Louis, where his show was not only highly-rated…it was the top-performing daypart in the entire St. Louis cluster.  His success in Nashville led to personal relationships with the country music community, which stand strong today.

Los Angeles was Ty’s next stop in the iHeartMedia family.  Ty was asked to join the brilliant team at 104-3 MYfm which was striving to grow.  Ty took afternoon drive to an overwhelmingly successful position in the biggest money-making market in radio!  He led the fledgling Hot AC station straight past market-giant KIIS-FM and to the #1 spot with the coveted Women 25-54!

Next, Ty was asked to take his talents to New York City to succeed Nick Cannon as host of mornings at 92-3 Now.  Prior to the station being rebranded as 92-3 AMP in 2014, Ty was able to takeover a 17th place morning show in the #1 market in the US, and lead it to become one of the market leaders in key CHR demographics (including Top 3 with 18-34).  He shared laughter with his audience, grew from a boyfriend to a father and husband…faced the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, a tragedy at Sandyhook Elementary school, and spearheaded community outreach and fundraising to help New York stay strong and remain great!  Without a program director (nor co-hosts) for the last seven months of his contract, Ty moved forward with a morning show that had consistently outperformed the station, and still led heritage competitors in NYC.  Which has brought him to his current position…

As Ty was realizing he would not stay while the station attempted to establish a transitioning identity in New York, he set groundwork for a different path.  He became excited about the advances in technology in the industry, and recognized that there was a company who has the threshold to make a giant impact in the coming years.  With the acquisition of Westwood One and Dial Global, along with their magazine business and a blossoming on-camera game-plan – with platforms like NASH-TV – Cumulus Media had potential to design itself at the forefront of the new age of media!

With that in mind, Ty was brought aboard to host and spotlight many of the company’s growing projects..with another exciting announcement soon to come..
